    About the Polish Złoty

The Polish Złoty (PLN, symbol: zł) is the currency of Poland. It is divided into 100 groszy (gr). Poland is an EU member but has not adopted the Euro — PLN remains the only legal tender. Exchange rates fluctuate against the Euro and other currencies; as of May 2026, indicative rates are 1 EUR ≈ 4.20 PLN, 1 GBP ≈ 4.90 PLN, and 1 USD ≈ 3.90 PLN.

    How to pay in Kraków

Card payments (Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay) are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, shops and most tourist sites. Cash is still preferred at some traditional milk bars (bary mleczne), market stalls, smaller taxis and local artisan vendors. ATMs (bankomat) are plentiful throughout the Old Town and Kazimierz — withdraw PLN directly rather than accepting dynamic currency conversion (DCC) offered at some ATMs, which gives poor rates.

Tipping: rounding up the bill or adding 10–15% is standard in sit-down restaurants. Cash tips are appreciated even if you pay by card.
