Which day trip should you choose?

Auschwitz-Birkenau is not a tourist attraction in the traditional sense — it is a place of remembrance that should not be missed if you are visiting Kraków. Plan 4–5 hours on-site and book well ahead. Go early in the morning.

Wieliczka Salt Mine is the most family-friendly and can be combined with Auschwitz in a single long day if you have the stamina (some tours offer both). The underground temperature is always 14°C so it works in any weather.

Zakopane and the Tatras is the best choice for hikers, nature lovers and anyone wanting mountain scenery. Most rewarding in summer (June–September). A full day is essential — the Morskie Oko lake alone is a 2–3 hour hike from the car park.

Częstochowa is less visited by international tourists but highly meaningful for anyone interested in Polish Catholic culture and history. It works well as a half-day trip on the way back to Kraków from Warsaw if arriving by train, or as a dedicated full morning excursion.
